We have been listening to your online giving needs and that is why we created some ways you can have forms pre-filled with recurring donation schedules and prefilled amounts! Now when a donor clicks to donate to a monthly subscription it will be pre-set to the donation cycle of monthly and/or donation amount you would like.

Go to your online giving options from your dashboard under "Display Your Badge". From there you can choose between the different donation button options to put on your website. Watch the video below to see the step by step.

Building Your Online Giving URL

For the first option you choose you will add a "?" after the link and before your first pre-filled option. After that each option you add will start with a "&". If there is already a "?" in your URL start with the "&".

So let's show you how a link could look. You will see the different sections of the link that make the link pre-set. So below we are choosing our "Link to New Page" onling giving badge. This link already has a "?" so we will start our first parameter with a "&". We will require the form to pre-set to recurring monthly, with 12 payment cycles (so one year of donation monthly), and set to an amount of 50.

For Online Giving forms that are HTML

For HTML here are the different options you can add below to make the form pre-set. You will notice this new piece of code below has been added to the badges so go ahead and re-copy the code from your badge selection from your "Display your Badge!" in your dashboard. Then you can pre-fill the newest section that looks like the HTML code below. For this example, the badge would be pre-set to recurring monthly, no set number of cycles, a start date, and no pre-filled amount.

We have all had it, your donor is ready to commit and give you an online donation and then their credit card gets declined. Not only is it frustrating for you as a church, nonprofit, or missionary fundraiser, but it is also embarrassing for your donor. But don't worry we have made a list of the most common credit, debit, and ACH declined messages for online giving and fundraising websites! Here are the most common failed transaction messages, what they mean, and what the donor can do to correct them.

Declined/ General Decline/ Transaction was Declined by Card Issuer

This is a general decline. You can try the transaction one more time but it you get the same failed message the cardholder will need to call their issuing bank or the number on the back of their credit card. Once the cardholder has talked with their issuing bank and resolved the issue they can try their donations again.

Invalid Card Number

This means your card number was typed in wrong. Please try the online giving again by re-entering your card number. If this error keeps happening then the donor will have to call their credit card issuer to make sure their credit card number is still valid

Expired Card

This means your card number has expired; or you can check to make sure you typed in your expiration date correctly. (For Donors - How to manage your online giving .)

Insufficient funds

This means the card does not have the funds to cover the donation amount. The donor needs to contact their bank to add money so there is sufficient funds inside their bank account to make the donation

Account Closed

This is a failed message specifically with an ACH (online banking) transaction. This means the donor closed their bank account that they tried to donate from. Let the donor know the banking information they provided is no longer valid and they need to edit their Payment Information inside their Continue to Give account and try the donation again.

Invalid processor REFID: or Source Key not Found

This error message means your merchant account is not active or you never received an approval on your merchant account. Please contact customerservice@continuetogive.com to resolve this with your account.

Processor Error

This means the processor is experiencing an error. Try your donation again in 10 minutes.

Invalid Message Body

This means that you have a special character that our online giving software cannot read. Please remove any special character in your billing information (most commonly seen in your name or city). Then try the donation again.

If there is a general error to make corrections to the fields please take a look at any highlighted fields you may have missed or has an unknown value.

If you as the organization want to help the donor fix the issue you can always use your virtual terminal to manage their account. Watch the video below:

Fear Not! Fundraising Can Be Very Rewarding

fundraising websites for a nonprofit organization or faith-based ministry can be hard. Sometimes really hard. Most of the people I know in the nonprofit world did not dream of becoming a fundraising professional. They did not want a degree in how to ask people for money to keep my job either. In fact, many people who lead or run nonprofits and churches will say how much they hate the fundraising part of their job. If you've ever felt this way, or you are currently hiding in Starbucks from your board trying to avoid this topic? take a deep breath and relax. You are not alone and you are not bad at your job if you dislike fundraising.

My fundraising journey began when I was working for a local nonprofit that focused on drug and alcohol prevention for teens. I loved working with students, I loved the mission of the organization, and I was passionate about the work we did. Then one day my boss informed us the funding we were receiving from the State of California was about to be reduced significantly and that we needed to come up with other funding sources. I felt tricked (or I got the short straw!) because they suddenly gave me the title of Development Director; a Greek word translating to 'guy who goes and asks for money.'

So, off I went to speak with service clubs, bridge groups, and women's tea parties. I basically talked to anyone who was willing to hear me speak about our nonprofit for 15 minutes to discuss the difference our nonprofit was making. A few months and an extra few pounds from the desserts later, we started to see an increase in donations from community groups and individuals. Now, I cannot say I loved fundraising at that point yet, but I really enjoyed telling our story, especially to students who felt our program was helping make them better people. At some point during this time I began to realize that fundraising was more about sharing stories than it was about asking for money. It became the fundamental core for my entire approach as a fundraising professional, long before I went to a fundraiser's conference or read a book on "Dialing for Dollars".

Fast forward to 2017, and after 21 years I have had the opportunity to work with both big and small shop, as a paid employee and as a volunteer, and not much has changed in my approach to ask for money. Sure, I have been to some excellent trainings, learned from some amazing fundraising experts, and have been blessed to have worked in jobs where my entire focus was fund development, but my overall approach has not changed all that much.

The fact is, if you identify the right people and tell the right story at the right time, almost anyone can have success in raising money for their organization - paid or volunteer.

Though there is a tax advantage in the United States for people giving to 501c3 Organizations, I have come to the conclusion that most people don't do it for the tax write-off. They seem to give because they want to make a difference, or they heard a compelling story that moved them to a place of action. If you can work with this idea in mind, I really think fundraising will become a more enjoyable part of your role, especially if you dread it. If you're one of the crazy few like myself who love this part of your job, then keep on doing what you're doing and people will naturally follow the passion and enthusiasm of your core mission.

I am reminded of a quote in an interview I read a while ago with Bethany Hamilton, the now famous surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack:

" In my first weeks at home, my family and I experienced an outpouring of aloha. For those who make Hawaii their home, aloha means much more then hello and goodbye. It goes back to the old Hawaiian traditions, and it means a mutual regard and affection of one person for another without any expectation of something in return. It means you do something from the pureness of your heart."

This is a great reminder to nonprofit and church leaders that you are approaching people to become engaged in your mission and the work you do so that they can make a difference - and not because there is something in return. People will see your heart and passion for your organization if you are authentic and tell them what a difference their partnership can make.

There are lots of excellent resources out there on fundraising strategies (and fundraising management), trends, best practices, and training materials that you can read up on. However, try and keep in mind that fundraising really is about some very simple and practical steps:

  • Go.
  • Find People.
  • Have Conversations.
  • Listen.
  • Share your heart and passion.
  • Agree on a plan that results in a measurable impact.
  • Celebrate the victories.
  • Support each other in the midst of failure.
  • Then do it again...and again... and again.

Being proactive is essential to a successful fundraising campaign. Even for an established organization, just a share or two on Facebook isn't going to get people excited about your Continue To Give fundraiser. The truth of the matter is, there is a lot of competition for donor generosity.

Regardless of whether you are saving up for a missions trip, asking for help to repay medical bills, planting a new church, working missionaries, or feeding hungry families — being proactive in your fundraising is essential to making your big plans a reality!

In this article, we're going to discuss how to be proactive in with your fundraising websites for your Continue To Give campaign. As with anything worth doing in life, it will take persistence and dedication! That's the first piece of advice!

Plan Ahead

As we just mentioned, there is a lot of competition for donors' generosity. Be prepared to convince donors why your fundraiser is the one they should invest in. Their donation is an investment in the good works you are working to accomplish (more on that later).

Questions to ask (and answer)

  • What makes my organization special?
  • What is the ultimate goal of my fundraiser?
  • How am I going to use donations?
  • What is going to happen to funds if we do not meet our goals?

Think through these questions and be prepared to communicate them to donors. This will help convince them of the value of your fundraiser and organization as well as help reassure them you've considered and planned ahead for challenges.

This may seem like a silly no-brainer, but the simple act of asking is often overlooked. This is a grave mistake as it is an (or the) essential part of proactive fundraising. Creating your Continue To Give campaign is a great start, but what use is it if you don't direct people to it? How does it help if donors aren't asked to visit it and give?

For those with limited fundraising experience, it can often be intimidating asking others for money. Don't be intimidated! Remember: People want to help make a difference. Your cause is a way for them to be a part of something bigger than themselves. They aren't giving away money. They're investing in a good cause. Their donation may be the only means they have of being a part of something they care very deeply about.

Go forward with the confidence you're helping others be a part of something important! Ask them to be a partner in making the world a better place.

Building relationships

View fundraising as a means to network and build relationships with people who care about similar things as you and your organization.

Whether they contribute a lot, a little, or none at all, thank them for their contribution. Do not look down on meager donations — often this is all the money they can afford to give. Remember the story in Mark 12:41-44 (ESV):

41 And he [Jesus] sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, "Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on."

Not only this, but a major function of fundraising is building longterm relationships. Just because a donor isn't prepared to give now, doesn't mean they won't be a great and wonderful asset to your cause later! They may be your next great donor, supporter, or volunteer.

With this in mind, take advantage of your interactions. Consider revisiting donors at a later date and asking if they would be interested in volunteering their time. If sending out written requests, include a note your campaign is looking for volunteers and recommend following your group on social media. Don't let any opportunity to build your network go to waste.

Help visualize donations

There is a reason why infographics, graphs, and pie charts are popular — humans like visuals. It is one thing to be told our donation is "helpful", but when we're told our donation can feed a family of five for a week, we suddenly realize just how helpful.

A fundraiser doesn't need to involve feeding families to visualize donations. Most of us have seen the thermometer graph for building projects where strips of red are added as the church grows closer and closer to meeting the goal. With a little bit of of proactive thought and creativity this strategy can be effective for a wide range of fundraising campaigns.

If your mission trip fundraising websites , explain how much is needed to send one person. If a non-profit dedicated to adult literacy, tell how many weeks of courses an average donation may provide. If crowdfunding for medical costs, explain how many treatments or months of payments a certain donation amount may help.

Whatever the cause or ultimate goal, highlight easily conceptualized smaller goals donors can imagine helping meet with their donations and they may be encouraged to give more just to help meet that goal!

Make Social Media Work For You

Social media is a powerful tool for fundraising with the right approach. Sharing a link to your online fundraising websites campaign is certainly better than not sharing a link, but that's not enough to truly take advantage of social media. You don't have to be a social media marketing guru to improve your social reach.

Be Visual

Social media marketing researchers at Buffer found including graphics in your posts can improve user engagement by over 150 percent! Take advantage of this when asking for donations. You don't need to have mad graphic design skills or expensive programs. In fact, Buffer recommends several of tools, many of which are free and can be used from your browser.

Find a graphic that's relevant to your fundraiser such as a picture of the church the youth group will be staying at during their missions trip, or the inside of your bakery, or of a church event. Add some short, simple, black and white text like, "Help us meet our goal!" and include a link to your Continue To Give fundraiser in the description. Voila! You just improved the chances of users clicking on your fundraiser by 150 percent!

Share Often & Schedule Ahead

A common misconception is frequent shares on Facebook will annoy your followers. The truth is, Facebook uses an algorithm which suppresses the posts of pages which don't share very often. Facebook automatically assumes these pages are less important, less active, and as a result, assumes users are less apt to want to see them. In addition, Facebook's algorithms control the percentage of posts any single page will appear on users feeds. Your biggest concern shouldn't be annoying your followers, it should be not reaching them at all.

Post five to 10 times a week on Facebook, suggest experts at Social Media Week.Their research also found posts around 1pm are most likely to result in shares and posts around 3pm are most likely to result in likes.

This may seem daunting or even impossible to remember to post several times a week at specific times, but, with Facebook's scheduling feature, page administrators can schedule weeks or even months worth of posts in advance.

If it isn't obvious, it's probably not wise to post your Continue To Give fundraiser 5-10 times a week on social media if it's the only content your page is sharing. Rather, include fundraising into your [new?] social media regime. Again, be proactive and let nothing go to waste!

Prepared for success

Handling success is as important as handling failure. If you get a pledge, great! Direct them to your Continue To Give fundraiser or to a page on your website devoted specifically for your Continue To Give campaign — the easier the address the better!

Take advantage of your thank you letters by telling donors about upcoming events or projects, include links to your organization's website and social media sites.

A Good Start

With a little bit of planning, a lot of hard work and persistence, you can improve the chances of your fundraiser's success. Take advantage of every opportunity to share your organization's message with potential donors and think ahead to potential obstacles.

We can't stress it enough: be persistent and don't lose hope. Find a pace that's sustainable. Don't exhaust yourself and your volunteers. Plan for a marathon of fundraising and go forth confident that with Continue To Give and your donors you're going to make this world a better place.

Fundraising is hard work! You have a great cause and you need people to donate to you. You want to meet your fundraising goal, but how do you do it?

Everyone who wants to have a successful personal fundraiser need to learn marketing. Marketing may sound intimidating at first but it is actually very simple and easy for you to do. Here are some basic marketing tips for you to make your fundraiser a success!

You need to Catch the Reader's Attention:

Your Title: The title of your fundraiser needs to point to exactly what your fundraiser is for. For example if you are raising money for a friend who has cancer make your title. "Help Ashley Beat Cancer"

This catches the readers attention with key words. "Ashley", this is someones name. By putting the persons name in the title you bring a personal relationship to your readers. "Help", this is a call to action that the reader will see as "what is my part in this tragedy". "Beat Cancer", this is the specific reason for your fundraiser. You want to raise money for medical and more specifically cancer.

Your Mission Statement: Your mission statement is extremely important for the sake of your fundraiser. It is what shows up when someone shares your page on their twitter. Limit your mission statement to one sentence. You can even repeat your title if it clearly defines your fundraiser. Remember key words are what people will pull away from your fundraiser. If you want to tell a story or write a paragraph do so in your description statement and not your mission.

Videos and Pictures: Give your fundraiser a picture or video. Let your readers know that this is a real fundraiser and you really have a genuine cause.

Share, Share, Share: If people don't know about it how will they know to donate? Share on facebook, share on twitter, and bring attention to your fundraiser. Start a blog. Sell t-shirts or wrist bands. The point is to keep people talking and thinking about it.

What is a Love Auction?

A love auction is an online silent auction done on facebook. Love Auctions are great for adoption fundraisers but can also be used for any fundraiser!

How can I do a Love Auction?

Doing a love auction is simple. First you need merchandise like give-a-way baskets, soaps, gift cards, jewelry, etc; anything that you would normally find at a silent auction or anything you could sell.

Take really nice pictures of each item individually. Post these pictures in a single album on your facebook and name it Love Auction for (Your Fundraiser Name).

Have your friends bid on items by leaving a comment under the picture with a price they are willing to pay.

Once your auction has ended, go through each picture and see who has the highest bid. Inform the winner that they have the highest bid and give them the link to your Continue to Give fundraising page or Giving page to donate that amount owed.

Once they pay, contact them to see when they would like to pick up their purchased silent auction item or if you need to mail it to them ask for their address.

Tips for Success

Advertise your intention for a love auction at least two weeks in advance. Send out reminders and get people excited for the products they can bid on!

Have a minimum bid for items. For example: if you have a $25 gift card make the minimum at least $15.

Explain that the only increments of bidding are in dollars not pennies. For example, have people use dollar units and to not up their bid by $.01.

Q: How do I get the tupperware to the people that ordered it? Do I have to pay shipping?

A: Kristin will send all of your tupperware to your house, church, or non-profit's address. No, you will not be charged for shipping.

Q: Do I have to pay anything to start?

A: No, you do not pay anything upfront. You only owe 60% of your tupperware sales to purchase the tupperware for people that have already ordered and you keep the other 40%!

Q: Is there a minimum that I have to sell?

A: No, there is no minimum.

Get creative by putting your QR code and the name of your adoption or personal fundraiser on a business card. Keep them in your purse or car in case you meet someone who wants to donate. Simply hand out the card and they can donate with their phone, or they can take it home and donate later. Who knows they may donate and share you card with someone else!

missionaries we would highly recommend this as an option to you! Just think about all those support letters you sent out. Was it easy for people to donate? Could they simpley scan a QR code with their phone and setup monthly donaitons on their credit card? Make sure to use QR codes for easy missionary fundraising!
