Description:
In September, I will be leaving for Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to spend a year working for International Justice Mission (IJM) as a Program Quality and Effectiveness Measurement intern. The overall purpose of the Program Quality and Measurement role is to support field office leadership in the design, monitoring and/or evaluation of projects. I will be assisting the office as they plead the cases of women and children who have been bound into commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking.
As part of the internship, I've been challenged to raise funds to support my participation in this unpaid experience. IJM is a non-profit organization and depends largely on individuals' donations. Mission Statement:
IJM is a non-profit organization whose mission is to: "Protect the poor from violence by rescuing victims, bringing the criminals to justice, restoring survivors to safety and strength and helping local law enforcement build a safe future that lasts."
IJM carefully investigates situations of abuse and partners with local
officials to free victims from their immediate situations of danger. After the victims have been freed, IJM seeks to address the root of the problem by prosecuting the perpetrators in local court systems and empowering communities to make structural changes that can prevent such abuses in the future. IJM also works with aftercare providers to help the newly freed victims adjust to a life that is very different from their past oppressive experiences. I encourage you to consult their website (www.ijm.org) if you wish to know more.
