Inspired by her journey through the foster care system, Katina Green established BridgingHeart, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, to help young adults newly emancipated from the foster care system grow, thrive and find their footing before entering the “real world.”

More specifically, the organization provides shelter, access to resources including: medical care, counseling, education and career assistance; and a safe space for young adults to learn how to make healthy choices, and just breathe while figuring out their next steps.

“Figuring it out shouldn’t have to be a hardship or a struggle. And unfortunately, that’s what most kids emancipated from the foster care system face.”

This is the motivating force behind BridgingHeart, and why Katina decided to establish BridgingHeart. For her, being emancipated from foster care, also meant falling prey to sex trafficking, something a large percentage of girls fall victim to upon leaving the foster care system, because, like Katina, they have no real direction or guidance, and are often left vulnerable and more susceptible to the whims of others who don’t have their best interest at heart.
