Our HISTORY

FOUNDER - HOPE - Elder James A. Gatewood 1994-1997

Founded on the HOPE that everyone that will ever worship here would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

New Mt. Zion was organized on April 6, 1994, under the leadership of Minister James A. Gatewood as pastor. On October 9, 1994, New Mt. Zion officially became a part of the United American Freewill Baptist A-Conference, District#2 with an official name change to New Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church. In 1995, (due to name conflict with an already established church), New Mt. Zion became "Greater" New Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church.  In 1997, prior to Elder Gatewood being relocated due to family military orders, the church officially became recognized by the State of Florida as a 501c3  Not for Profit church.

FOUNDATION - LOVE - Bishop Dr. Harvey J. Lester  1998 - 2018

Laid the foundation with "Unconditional Love" that was extended to all.  "By love and kindness have I drawn thee." Jeremiah 31:3

In 1998, by recommendation of the Freewill A-Conference leadership, Dr. Harvey J. Lester was accepted as Pastor.  His dedication and commitment over the years has been to establishing a firm foundation of LOVE! "love oneanother  as Christ loved us!"  In 2016, the church officially voted to no longer be a part of the United American Freewill Baptist A-Conference thus becoming an independent Church. Bishop Lestor served faithfully 20years until his retirement in 2018.

TRANSITION - Leadership Board - 2018-2019

From March 2018 to June 2019, the church was led by a Leadership Board chaired by teacher/administrator Sheryll Broadnax.  During this time the Church was renamed Greater New Mt. Zion Ministries to more accurately reflect our status as an indipendent church.  With this new focus on moving forward, the church established our current Vision statement, renewed it's Mission, and  implemented a strong Christian/Faith belief  that's reflected in our Statement of Faith which now governs the direction of this ministry.

FORWARD - FAITH - Elder Sheryll Y. Broadnax  - 2019 - Present

Kingdom Mandate: "Teach to Transform  - Equip to Serve"

Since July 2019,   Greater New Mt. Zion Ministries (GNMZ Ministries as we call it), has been led by current pastor/teacher, Elder Sheryll Broadnax.   Her leadershio focuses on transforming lives for Kingdom work through the teaching and demonstration of the Word of God.  Pastor Sheryll is committed to equiping believers and developing leaders that function as mature saints prepared to impact  and reach their world for Christ.  Ephesians 4:11-16

Our VISION is to have transformed lives that reflect the values of the Kingdom of God as we impact our world.

Our MISSION is to be the church that displays the love of Christ to people from all walks of life.  To seek and save the lost by meeting the needs of the total person; Mind (intellectual), Body (physical), Soul (emotional), and Spirit (spiritual) through the teaching of the uncompromised "Word of God" as the only true way to salvation.  To disciple and transform members into servants, servants into leaders equipped and prepared to live out and share their faith with others.  To build godly families that reflect kingdom values, faithfully serving and supporting the vision of the church while impacting communities as agents of change for God's Kingdom fulfilling the Great Commission to "Go and make disciples of all nations..."  Matthew 28:18-20
