I am part of CCHI (Collaborative Community Housing Initiative) a grassroots, nonprofit organization made up of 30 families (and growing) who all have young adults with special needs. We are creating independent living opportunities for people like Fill in Name, and we are making considerable progress! We recently earned approval to develop our first multifamily housing development in Highwood, Illinois. This is an inclusive community with 35% of the apartments reserved for those with special needs and the rest for typical people who work on the North Shore. Imagine people of all abilities living together in a place with communal spaces to hang out, share a meal, watch a movie or create art and music in the building's studio! A place where everyone feels welcome and Fill in Name feels at home.
